Leadership Roles

Group Leadership Roles

In this group, graduate students have the option to take leadership positions to help with the administration of the group. This way our students can develop management and leadership skills to use in their career. Each year, we rotate the roles to allow for more students to participate in leadership. In the following table we list the amazing students who have taken on these roles in the past.

Group Co-Captains

Senior graduate students, whose research experience make them invaluable resources for the entire group. Co-captains are here to help the team with the day-to-day questions, pointing them in the right direction, and supervising group events.

Group Meeting Manager

With an entire semester of practice talks, visitors, and activities to organize, the meeting manager is essential to arranging these and keeping track of events. The meeting manager schedules these events at the beginning of the semester and ensures that speakers and visitors are up-to-date with their commitments. Keeping all of this on track makes the semester flow smoothly and that the group is obtaining the most out of our meetings.

Webmaster

In order to promote the work done by group members, past and present, the webmaster administrates the website you are currently on. If you are reading this, then they have been successful! The webmaster makes sure our group’s research is accessible to all, and that our member’s details are up-to-date so collaboration with new partners can be made feasible.

Cluster Manager

With the high-performance computational resources available to our group, it is essential to have cluster managers that can help members gain access and learn how to use the supercomputers that are at our disposal. Much of our research nowadays requires these resources, and our cluster managers are key to making our ideas lead to concrete results. These managers are knowledgeable in navigating computer clusters and using their software to perform essential calculations, as well as communicating with cluster administrators and technical services to resolve issues and choose the right hardware for our needs.

Muses Ambassador

At the intersection of our group’s emphasis on collaboration and high-performance computing is the MUSES collaboration to answer critical interdisciplinary questions in nuclear physics, gravitational wave astrophysics, and heavy-ion physics. Our MUSES ambassador connects our group to this collaboration, working on both administrative tasks and scientific projects.
